RUGBY

Despite not being recognised as an official sport until 1910, Rugby is almost synonymous with Dale College and has become the dominant sport at our proud school. We field six open teams, and three each in the u14, u15 and u16 age categories.

The winter sporting calendar is eagerly anticipated, and consists of regular “Derby Days” against schools across the Eastern Cape. Historical rivals include Queen’s College, Selborne College, Grey High School and St Andrew’s College, but we also compete against a number of top local Border schools to round off our list of annual rivals. Dale College continues to produce representatives in Border youth teams, including the U18 Craven Week and Academy teams, Grant Khomo U16 team, Border U17 7’s team and Border U19 team.

We are also proud to have had some exceptional rugby players come through our doors, H.O de Villiers, Gcobani Bobo, Keegan Daniel, Terra Mtembu, Aphiwe Dyantyi, Siviwe “Shakes” Soyizwapi, and Aphelele Fassi, just to mention a few.

CRICKET

Cricket has been played by Dale College students since the school’s conception. We are proud to be a Cricket South Africa Focus school, and to also be one of the few schools in South Africa that holds “Blue Chip” status. Some of the greatest cricketers produced by Dale College include Hylton Ackerman, Makhaya Ntini, Mondi Zondeki and Malibongwe Maketa.

We believe it is vital to maintain the spirit and traditions in which cricket is played. The values of honesty, fair play, respect for others, accepting the umpire’s decision, courtesy and self-discipline, as enshrined in the game. Coaches, captains, players and administrators are given the responsibility of upholding these traditional values, which make cricket the game it is.

Dale College has two scenic grounds on which our home matches are played. We also boast 4 turf and 10 artificial cricket nets.

SOCCER

Soccer is thriving at Dale and the Buster Farrar sports field with its newly renovated club-house makes for a perfect setting. With a well-established local league and more and more peer schools, the opportunities for excellent derby-day type of contests are immense. The club is well supported, and our three teams compete equally with the best.

SQUASH

Dale  boasts newly renovated  top class squash facilities where our players are able to train and compete.

Dale participates on a weekly basis in the Border Squash league. We have also made squash a regular in our winter derby fixtures which has allowed our athletes the chance for top class competition against our local rivals.

CROSS COUNTRY

Dale College is privileged to offer cross country as part of our sporting program, and we are blessed with some fantastic routes around the school. Athletes are able to participate in a number of races throughout the year with some highlights being the Berry Dam race in Queenstown and Cape Schools Race.

HOCKEY

The Dale College mission is for all hockey players to have a passion for the sport which will inspire them to continue to play or be involved in this sport well after they leave school. We want all players to feel fulfilled and reach their potential. Players are to enjoy the competition, but maintain a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship, fitting of a Dale College sportsman.

We have state-of-the-art facilities at our Astro complex, which has just seen a complete renovation. We have 8 teams who compete in our traditional derby days in the winter season. Our main 1st team hockey matches are played on Friday evenings. This gives a great atmosphere to the home games; with hundreds of supporters having wonderful views of the games from the natural banking that surrounds the astro turf.
